    Marathon Basics

So You Have Decided to Run a Marathon.

Maybe you've been running for quite awhile or maybe you're just beginning. You're probably eager and scared at the same time. Can you make it all the way to the end of the marathon? Will you cross that finish line full of victory? The answer is a definite yes…if you make and follow a Marathon training plan. Following are some of the basic steps that you will need to consider as you create your plan:

  1. Take stock of your current skills and workout level. If you are an experienced runner who currently runs a couple of miles each day, then you will be starting from a different point than someone who is only just beginning. Be honest with yourself because the less experience and stamina that you currently have, the longer your training schedule should be before actually running in your first marathon.

  2. Come up with a personal Training for Marathon plan based on your answers to step 1 above.

  3. Take a look at the Marathon Schedule and choose a date in the future based on the length of your marathon plan that you chose in step 2. Find out how to sign up for the marathon.

  4. Buy yourself an excellent pair of running shoes. The health of your feet is extremely important when training for a marathon.

  5. Visualize success each and every day. Take fifteen minutes to sit back, close your eyes, and see yourself crossing that finish line.

  6. Work your plan. Make smaller goals for yourself which will give you an opportunity to reward yourself for small victories.

You can find motivation through the experiences of other runners. You can also take some time to create a great mix of running music that you can listen to as you run.

Depending on your skill and experience level, you might want to consider running in half marathons before advancing to a full marathon. This will give you the opportunity to practice with other runners and feel proud of yourself for completing this challenge.

Above all, don't forget to enjoy yourself. The more that you train and visualize, the closer you'll get to your goal. And don't forget to reward yourself with cool running apparel. This can help increase your confidence level and make you feel great as you are training and competing. Best of luck on your awesome goal!
