Half Marathon Fun

So you've been training for some time and even run in a couple of local 5k and 10k runs. You don't feel quite ready for a full marathon. What do you do? The answer is the excellent half marathons that are available all across the US and abroad. You will only be running 13 miles.

Half Marathons Are Great for Many Reasons

The great thing about half marathons is that they provide with you with awesome practice and experience as you work towards the full marathon. You have a quicker recovery time but you still get to experience the world of marathon racing. You can also network with fellow runners who too might be preparing for the marathon in the future.

Training for a half marathon is similar to training for a full one. There are many excellent resources that can help you come up with your own training schedule including ones found at State of the Art Marathon Training. Just like with a full marathon, you should not jump in full force to training for a half marathon without at least five or six months of running practice under your belt.

Half Marathons Require a Faster Pace

One thing to know about half marathons is that they are run at a somewhat faster pace. Therefore, part of your training program will probably deal with faster pace training. At the same time, you don't have to spend so much time on super long distance runs (18 miles or more) as you prepare. As part of your training routine, you might want to go ahead and run in some 10k races. During the last week before the race, you will want to taper off your distance and instead just focus on short workouts.

On the day of the race, make sure that you have your running shoes, your running apparel, your racing number, safety pins, and a change of clothes for after the race. Enjoy yourself as you achieve one of your goals while working towards your first full marathon.
