Marathon Calendar and Schedule

A great way to motivate yourself as you train for running marathons is to pick a marathon that appeals to you. Following is a schedule of some of the major marathons along with others that you might find interesting. It's a great idea to go on each of the marathon's sites and read about the specific dates, entry requirements, and costs. So put on your running shoes and enjoy!

Major Marathon Schedule:

The Five Largest Marathons

• Boston Marathon – Held on Patriot's Day which is the third Monday in April.
  To qualify for this marathon you must meet the qualifying time based on your age group.
  
• The ING New York City Marathon – Held in early November.
  Slots for the marathon are filled on a first come, first served basis.
  
• The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon – Held in early October.
  Slots for the marathon are filled on a first come, first served basis.
  
• London Marathon – Held in the first half of April.
  Slots for the marathon are filled on a first come, first served basis though many are reserved for charities, clubs, overseas travel agencies, and sponsors.
  
• Berlin Marathon – Held in late September.
  Slots for the marathon are filled on a first come, first served basis. One of the easiest ways to get a slot at this marathon is to run for a charity or use an overseas travel agency.

• Disney World Marathon – Held in January
  If you love all things Disney then running a marathon through all four parks that make up the Magic Kingdom in Orlando , Florida may be just the ticket. Many runners I've known have trained to specifically run this marathon. Sounds like fun!
  
• Honolulu Marathon – Held in early December.
  Ever fancied to visit Hawaii ? Here's your chance with the Honolulu Marathon. They do not limit the number entrants into the race.
  
• Las Vegas Marathon – Held in early December.
  Instead of beaches, maybe you desire slot machines. Run this marathon and then celebrate your victory with some down time in the local casinos or seeing world-class entertainment.
  
• Country Music Marathon – Held in late April.
  Want to do have some hand-clapping, yeehaw fun? Run your marathon in Nashville , the home of country music.
