  Running Shoes

Not Your Typical Gym Shoe

You should take buying your running shoes very seriously. Shoes that would be great for the casual runner would most likely not be appropriate for a marathoner. Therefore, before you even begin shopping you will need to consider that you will be running 25 miles or more each week.

It is important that you work with a specialty store when purchasing running shoes. Your sales clerk should know the importance of looking at your arch, your strike, and your stride before advising you on the best shoes to purchase. Especially be wary of a salesperson who tries to sell you a specific brand without taking this into consideration.

Make sure that you try on your shoes with the type of socks you will be wearing during workouts. You don't want to wear super-thin or super-thick socks when you normally don't wear those. You are looking for comfort and efficiency.

Running Shoe Redundancy

One final note, it's a good idea to buy a second pair of the same model of running shoes once you are sure that you are happy with them. This pair can be kept so that when you get about a month out from the date of the full or half marathon, you can begin breaking them in. This ensures that you don't buy a new pair that would interfere with your run and that you have given the shoes sufficient time to get prepared for the event.
